My high school English teacher, Mrs. Johnston, wrote and self-published a guide for her students called Thirteen Steps to Research (copyright 1974). She made every one of her students buy it. We were not happy. The pocket-size book was nothing special to look at--12 pt. Courier type; stapled binding; a yucky beige cover with a lame staircase design on the front.
But I still have it and I still use it. It's an invaluable source for creating footnotes/endnotes and bibliographies. Over the years I tucked in a page or two on citing websites, but otherwise it's the perfect resource for a writer.
Thanks Mrs. Johnston!
